When Can We Come Home?  Healing Open Wounds of Black Ableism By Speaking Black Disabled Ancestors Through Poetry & Introducing Krip-Hop Politics 

 

Speaking the stories through poetry and songs of our Black disabled ancestors and the ableism and racism that face Black disabled people.


  Leroy F. Moore Jr., Founder of the Krip-Hop Nation.  Since the 1990s, he has written the column "Illin-N-Chillin" for POOR Magazine. Moore is one of the founding members of National Black Disability and activist around police brutality against people with disabilities.  Leroy has started and helped start organizations like Disability Advocates of Minorities Organization to Sins Invalid to Krip-Hop Nation.  His cultural work includes film documentary, Where Is Hope, Police Brutality Against People with Disabilities, spoken-word CDs, poetry books and children’s book, Black Disabled Art History 101 published by Xochitl Justice Press.  His graphic novel,  Krip-Hop Graphic Novel Issue 1: Brown Disabled Young Woman Superhero Brings Disability Justice to Hip- Hop was published by Poor Press 2019 and 2020 under Poor Press. Leroy also published Black Disabled Ancestors.  Moore has traveled internationally networking with other disabled activists and artists.  Moore has wrote, sang and collaborated to do music videos on Black disabled men.

Twerk the Stress Away

 

Come turn up and twerk some of your stress away.  This class will include modifications for different abilities. 


 Michael Lang is a fitness professional: trainer, motivational coach, and group fitness instructor. Currently training at Crunch Fitness in Snellville, Georgia, he lives and breathes the benefits of health daily. A former fitness model, Michael has been training and motivating for over 15 years, and encourages his clients to seek fitness through a healthy balance of exercise, nutritional eating, fun activities, active social life, and rest. He believes that exercise and fitness are the gateway to preserving mind, body, and soul. He is known throughout the Southeast for his high-energy, body positive, fun classes for all ages and abilities ranging from Twerk Fitness, Hip-Hop classes, Strength Training, and Strong HIIT.

Trap and Paint

Participants will need to purchase their own materials ahead of time. Participants may also choose to just watch James create or color the coloring sheets available.


Materials for Trap and Paint:
1.    You may find these materials at your local craft store.

(If you go out, don’t forget your mask!)
2.    16x20 Canvas (a pack of two is generally $5)
3.     A Brush set ( a 25-piece Value Brush Pack is generally $6)
4.    Watercolor Paint Set ( a 24 piece Watercolor set is around $15)


James Jones is a soulful freelance artist from Tuscaloosa, Alabama. After receiving his fine arts degree from the University of Alabama, James channeled his southern roots to develop his artistic style, which he describes as roaring realist with a dash of classic. Currently residing in Atlanta, Georgia, he has been painting since he was a child and views art as a way to relieve stress, foster a creative spirit, and channel any emotions. James’s classes, which often involve over 100 participants, are fun, easy, and engaging.
